Accredition is a process of external quanlity review used by higher education to scrutinize colleges, universities and higher education programs used for quality assurance and quality improvement.

Each country has its own accredition system. International Open University was established in 1999 and recognized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Malawi, Africa. Full approval has been granted for all the courses offered by IOU by the Government of Malawi.
